Nicely aging bottle perhaps open just a bit too soon. Golder in color. Slight whiff of petrol on openning but that disappears with some air. Thick just with some of the fruit having gone bye-bye, leaving a thicker fuller wine with some ginger and lemon sense to it. Crisp still with good acidity. I think it was around $16 a bottle somewhere sometime ago. Okay but there is better for the price...like from August Kessler nearby.

the petrol whiff is (surprisingly) a sign of a well aged riesling. not sure why. i've had some 88's and 90's that have aged well and drunk well, and they all had the same odor for several minutes. try it with some stinky cheese, liver pate or even apple pie!

Absolutely! I look forward to that smell on openning...it is shall we say...comforting...
Looking forward to seeing how a few of my current 2001's age over time....they are all closed down right (except surprisingly for the Toni Jost ones)...so I'm gonna have to be patient.
