We had this tonight with some chicken. I really enjoyed this wine. Since I'm no good at writing tasting notes, here are some I found in a newsletter by finewine.com.

"Beginning with a great herbal nose, this South African gem possesses a sprightly effervescence which lends a festive beginning to its flavors of melon and lemony citrus. Its lush attractive fruit continues into a long, refreshing finish."

Yeah, like they said! Alc. 13.5% by vol. $6.99

I'm beginning to be a fan of SA SB too!

A pretty good wine, if memory serves. But do those wine writers sound stodgy. One of the joys of my life is to tear apart the syntax of a back label, which the description you post (Georgie) looks a lot like, even if it came off a Web site.

I mean really--"Beginning with a great herbal nose..." (who, the South African gem or the wine?)

"Possesses a sprightly effervescence which lends a festive beginning..." How about:

...is sprightly effervescent, festive even, with lush melon and citrus flavors that carry through a lasting, and rewarding, finish.

Back label writing has to be the easiest money anyone grabs...

WOW, it seems that Dan Berger is in our camp. In his newsletter today (July 17) he has an excellent article titled "Europe's Treasures." It talks about wonderful wines from small regions at great prices. Towards the end he adds, "It is also why I like to try South African Pinotage, New Zealand Cabernet, and South African Sauvignon Blanc."

Tried this yesterday at my birthday BBQ. Delicious! Refreshing acidity and a nice hint of cat pee. I got it for $9 and it was worth it, even if more than what Georgie paid.

Glad you liked the wine! Happy Birthday!

"...and a nice hint of cat pee..."

Someone from another planet, or another persuasion, would have to believe we are a weird bunch

I don't think one would have to be from another planet or persuasion to think that about this group!
