- wondersofwine - 01-02-2004 Purchased on sale--not expensive at all. 18% alcohol. Described on label as "a fine young tawny" "Medium garnet/tawny with orange/red tints" Color was see-through garnet edging towards mahogany tones Syrupy scents--raspberry, overripe plums, molasses?--similar flavors; quite sweet to the taste Nice with chocolate--I had with mini-Heath bars but it would also go nicely with chocolate mousse or pudding, molten chocolate cake (with hot liquid chocolate on the inside of the cake), or German chocolate cake. A little sweet for my taste but I can see its appeal to others. I had intended to open a Cockburn 10-year Tawny Port that I had saved, but I wasn't sure where I had stashed it. - quijote - 01-02-2004 Great TN. We had some of this last Saturday with chocolate mousse, and then some more on Sunday with fudge brownies and vanilla ice cream. It cost about $7.50 here (Buffalo). We also recently tried the Fine Tawny and Fine Muscat--both are delicious. - Jorog - 01-05-2004 R.L. Bueller also make a "Fine Tokay" Which is also very sweet but quite good (orange, almond and toffee flavors as I recall) for the $12/375 it runs. |
