1964 Charles Krug, Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vintage Selection.
Any idea where in its life this wine is after nearly 40 years? In or past its prime? Any collector value? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

1964 was an excellent vintage in CA. However, even in its prime, this Krug was a B/B+ at best. I'm afraid that it has long since seen its better days, even if perfectly stored.

ser97, welcome to the board. ^4 was, as Bucko stated, a good year for Cali. Cabs, but from all the ones I drank during the 70s`, the vintage didn`t hold up as expected. I cellared 2 cases of BV Reserve which was the star of the vintage and watched as it slowly sank in the sunset in the late 70s and early 80s`. The wine has very little commercial value and the advice that`s been given hundreds of timnes on the board holds true here... Open that sucker and try it! winoweenie

Thanks all!! I was thinking about uncorking this for Christmas dinner. Any chance that it might still be drinkable and/or should I have a backup ready and waiting?
