This old-vines zin came in at 14.3% alcohol.
Dark inky purple/black color. A strong aroma of unspecified dark fruits. Tastes of blue and black fruits, quite extracted? with the alcohol showing. Chewy texture and somewhat tannic. It's possible that this wine would have benefited from 2-3 more years in bottle. Not a favorite with me at this stage but it did grow on me the second and third night. Consumed with tacos and sloppy joes. Overall impression I liked the wine better after it had been opened for a day but I didn't find it to be a typical Zinfandel--maybe more extraction or wood treatment. It was definitely running toward
blue and black fruits in my impression. This was my first experience with wine from Susan Selby. The 2001 Zinfandel sells for $19 from the winery. I think I paid $24.99.
