Lytton Springs Winerey, Sonoma County, CA $18.99 when purchased
From 80-year-old vines. Grapes ripened by late September, 1992; aged in American oak.
Recently decided to try my single bottles of 1992 and 1993 Lytton Springs zin from Lytton Springs Winery. The 1993 had well over 15% alcohol by volume and the 1992 had 14.9%.
The 1992 was inky purple-black. I got stains on my fingertips from the end of the cork. The cork was brittle but did not disintegrate. Slight sediment on the last pour from the bottle.
Nose: zinberry, dark raspberries
Taste: more dark fruit than wood; alcohol still gives impact but did not taste as if fruit were too faded. Chewy stewed fruit; slightly pruny. Even better on the second day. I would rate as at least very good (upper 80's). I thought the '92 was holding up better than the '93.

Yeah, I tried to edit it and it would let me edit the text but not the subject line and it would have been too much hassle to delete and reenter the whole thing. I do like the zing from zinfandel however.
