Well, this wine, well...the best description, confused me.

1997 Van Asperen Napa Valley Zinfandel. 70% is made from vines about 96 years old. The youngest vines are 36 yrs old.

Have any of you tasted this one? What are your opinions and tasting notes on it? I just wasn't sure what was going into my mouth. It was substantially different than the other zins i have tasted (Rancho Zabacho, Pedroncelli, Coppola). Any info about this one will maybe help me figure out whats going on in my mouth.

"Wake up, Mr. Barnsey...Wake up, this is Dr. Van Asperen and we've finished the root canal. You'll feel a little light headed and have a strange sensation in your mouth for a while, but don't worry...everything went ok."

Barnsey, does it have a geranium smell/taste?

Well, I can pick up pepper and alcohol (its over 15%). Also a bit fruity. I haven't been able to pick up any floral aromas in any of the wines. My nose hasn't gotten that suffisticated yet.
