i bought at auction yesterday a double-magnum of the 1997 Burgess Merlot. anyone have any tasting notes on this? and can anyone suggest whether i'd be okay putting this down til near the end of the year? i'm guessing the provenance for this bottle was pretty good before the auction. thanks.

Haven't had this wine but considering the vineyard as being outstanding and from one of the great vintages of the century, don't think there'd be any problemo with putting this sucker in the cookie jar fer' awhilst. WW

Only once, last year, did a Burgess Enveiere cross my lips and it was the 1997, and then just two glasses. Big stuff, tannic, yet very much an expression of substantial, underlying beautiful deep fruit, with no harmful effects when crossing the finishing line!Do not know how it would reveal itself a year later.

thanks, gentlemen. gonna put this in my locker and hold onto it til the fall, when good friends of ours have had their baby and she can inbibe again. plus, gonna invite down a friend from NYC. he's already announced his party in june 2003 to trumpet the arrival of his order of 2000 bordeauxs, so figure i can go a little ways in returning the favor ;-)
