1996 Merlot, Columbia Valley, $12 - Dark ruby with a red fruit nose. The wine is lush with jammy red berry fruit, moderate but soft tannins, balanced oak and a long finish. Why can't more producers turn out this quality in this price range? Purchase by the case. Recommended.

1997 Merlot, Columbia Valley, Estate Series, $20 - WOW! is the first impression of this wine. Dark ruby with the aroma of blackberries. Rich, lush, complex black fruits, balanced, moderate but silky tannins, and a long aftertaste. This wine competes with wines at twice the price. Highly recommended.
