1996 Beringer Red Table Wine, Alluvium, Knight's Valley, $30. The wine is 75% Merlot with the remainder a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Black fruit predominates, a hint of minerals, moderate tannins, and, and, and obvious smoky OAK!!!! Similar to the 1996 HM Merlot -- just overwhelming smoky oak.

Yep. Confirms it. Beringer do like smoked wood.
