For those of you who have Kroger stores where you live, you've probably seen this brand of wine; for those of you who don't, you've probably haven't seen this brand since it's the only place I've come across it. Usually coming in under $7 (this time it was 5.99), it would have to be placed in the bargain category, even by supermarket standards. At the same time I thinks it qualifies for the good to very good value category as well. For me it just proves the point again that no matter how tempting, you can't dismiss any particular wine based soley on price. To the wine itself, it was medium bodied, had aromas of cassis and oak (very cabernet-like), and nicely focused plum flavor with some smoke and spice in there too. What really made it work for me was good acidity that kept the flavors fresh and vibrant. It also made for a better match with the dinner as well. If more California winemakers would take this lead, I would definitely have to give more Cal merlots a second look.

I think it's a house brand, made by who knows. All I can find on it is a few minor awards it has won, but nothing on the maker. Maybe inspector Drew can do better.

Well, I stand corrected. Wine-seacher.com revealed that Wades Wines, an upscale retailer in Westlake Vilage, CA, carries their chardonnay for $5.99. Still can't figure out who makes it.

Here ya go. Arrow Creek is one of the labels of Golden State Vintners. They're located virtually across the street from the Franzia place in Napa where they make Two Buck Chuck.

Good work their Deputy KC, I knew they were a label of a larger vinter but couldn't put my finger on it.

Good sleuthing guys. The only thing the label offers is the location of Arrow Creek Vineyards as being St. Helena, California. Does that sound right? As for Golden State Vintners, has anybody had something from one of their other labels? I've heard that Diamond Grove has some good stuff. Anybody had any experience with this one? Over and out.

We carry the Diamond Grove wines, and they're decent, everyday lower priced wines. As for the Golden State portfolio, Diamond Grove is about the top of their line - get the hint?
