2004 Matua Valley Sauvingnon Blanc: The first of the new vintage bursts from the blocks! Practically colourless, but you'd never mistake it for water after smelling the huge, gooseberry-led aroma. Much different on the palate than last years crisp, lemony, green-apple laced SB, though. Less acidic, more minerally, and not as sweet-tasting this year. The apple is a lot more pronounced, too. Almost reisling-like at times. Tried it with a Thai red beef curry, which made for a good match. NZ$14 at the cellar door.

Bonus TN's:
2002 Waipara Springs Chardonnay: A nice easy-drinker, still with some acidity to it. Could last a little while longer, perhaps. Good right now, though.

2002 Floating Mountain Chardonnay: Perfect "drink-me" chardonnay, smooth, rich and buttery. Gains the Big Tick O' Approval from me.

2002 Waipara Springs Pinot Noir: Very sweet nose, fruity and very drinkable. Nice oak, but not overpowering. I'd drink that one again.

2002 Floating Mountain Pinot Noir: A nice, firm pinot noir, rich and eathy. Nice tingly tannins...feels like a great food wine.
