Had dinner with an old friend in Chicago tonight at David Burke's Primehouse. This seemed to be a more local place though my friend clearly would have preferred to have gone to places like Chicago Chop House or similar. Reservations were not coming at those places,...even on a Tuesday night...

VERY NICE STEAKS (with accompanying price...). I had a Miso Sea Scallop on Lobster Risotto, 40 day aged Ribeye steak, a side of truffle fries, and two desserts (one was a mistake), a chocolate Beignet and a Peach ice cream on a torte of some time. The wine was a 2006 Mitolo G.A.M. I thought that the initials were the varietals and one check of the website proved this to be wrong. (from the Mitolo Website "G.A.M. represents the first initial of each of the Mitolo children's first names - Gemma, Alex and Marco.").

Superripe wine, juice, rich, lush cherries, plum, some hints of dried green herbs, thick, and still a noticable level of acidity behind it, but no where near enough for this level of lushness. Easy drinking but just too much for me. I would have preferred a syrah based wine with a bit more backbone. $100 at the restaurant so the markups appear to be reasonable to an MA resident's eye.

I think that an easily aquired $40 retail wine that is sold for $100 is criminal and that's why I won't purchase wines at most restaurants. The menu sounded delish though.
