- wondersofwine - 05-17-2002 Went to a free tasting yesterday of Geyser Peak wines. Mick Schroeter, the winemaker from Australia was there. I stayed with the red wines. The cabernet sauvignon (1998) was drinking nicely now. Winemaker says it will age for 3-4 years. Better vintages will age for 10 years or more. I liked the reserve shiraz (1999?) considerably better than the regular shiraz until I heard the price. Over $50 a bottle at this Nantucket wine shop. Might be available for less elsewhere as Nantucket prices do run high. If you can get it at a bargain price, go for it. (Hmm, maybe I should have posted under Rhone wines because of the grape type.) - Bucko - 05-17-2002 Don't forget Daryl Groom! - wondersofwine - 05-22-2002 There's a Geyser Peak ad running with Mick and Daryl balancing on top of wine barrels. Mick said they were trying to knock each other off. [This message has been edited by wondersofwine (edited 05-22-2002).] - vinman - 05-22-2002 The vinkski likes a lot of Groom's wines. Mostly the very decent '98 Alexander Valley Petite Verdot, '98 Alexander Valley Cabernet Franc, and the very simple off-dry current Riesling. Just nice! How about the seconds, a really a neat Canyon Road Sauvignon Blanc that rivals the first! - Drew - 05-23-2002 I too enjoyed the Alexander Valley Cab previously tasted and reported on. http://www.wines.com/ubb2/Forum9/HTML/000440.html Drew - winoweenie - 05-23-2002 Always in the top 10 P/Q list of ole'weener.
