Well we had a couple of these beauties last night with Filet Mignon...Very elegant with thick, slily mouthfeel. Very concentrated, my son and brother in law have never had a wine so thick, they said. Port like in appearance, opaque black ruby with a somewhat subdued nose of blackberry, blueberry with a touch of vanilla and brown sugar. Took 1 to 2 hrs. to open up. The flavors of dark fruit and blueberry, caramel ?, and vanilla are perfectly balanced and take you into a long smooth finish. This wine pared great with the filets and is a steal for $18 here.
IMHO, I think the 97' was a little richer and fuller, if you can believe that!, but I think the 98' will be Great in 2-3.

Opened one last night and WOW! Really comming together. The wine opened within an hour and added some notes of expresso and mint. Still very thick and the oak is integrating nicely with good tannins and acidity. One of the great values of the '98 vintage with a long life ahead.

One year later and I popped another with my son and wife last night. It has become very floral with blueberry, blackberry and vanilla dominating. Very thick mouthfeel with beautiful flavors of blackberry, blueberry, caramel, vanilla and a hint of white chocolate. Complex and seamless now, a definate WW 4 lapper . Plenty of tannins and acid to assure future development but it's drinking so nice now, hard to imagine it could get better.

Popped our last bottle last night with friends also with the '97 version. A little on the downslide now but still showing beautiful blackberry flavors with a hint of port still noticable on the finish. The "oilyness" of the wine has subdued and it's throwing more sediment than previously noted. Twas a wonderful wine and enjoyed it's transformation over the years.
