I heard good things about Banfi and Chianti is the Touscana specilaity but...
1) Is Banfi and Castello Banfi the same winery?
2) Is there a difference between Chianti and Chanti Classico?

Thanks

1. Yes.
2. Classico is a tighter appellation. Look at a map of wine regions and you will see Chianti covers a much larger area.

Always one to sound the sour note, I must again this time. Put any of the Banfis up against two other Chianti Classicos in a blind tasting and the Banfi will almost always come out last. I did just that at Toscana, my old restaurant up here next to the U. of WA and my customers invariably chose ANYTHING else. Banfi is a huge old Italian house and makes a number of speldid wines, principally the flawless Summus, but they mail it in with their Bargain Chianti and Classico bottlings every year. BUYER BEWARE.
