2002 Podere Tramonti, Innocento, Castellina in Chianti ($13.99 The Clown). This is one of "Our Own" wines at The Clown. The props own the winery and (I think) the importer (Vinilandia of Kennebunk, ME) as well as the three retail shops here in Maine.

It is 100% Sangiovese, and turns out to be a great food wine as most Sangiovese, especially at the lower price points, is wont to be. Lush fruit on the nose and upfront. From then on it appeared quite lean by itself, but fleshed out nicely with penne in tomato sauce and sausages. Even did quite well with the salad in blue cheese dressing afterward. Not for afternoon quaffing.

They have a Chianti Classico too, at $22.50 which is slightly above my paygrade for that type of wine. Would rather go with a nice Rosso di Montalcino at the same price point.
