- wondersofwine - 04-21-2002 Anyone tried this yet? While browsing the wine selections at the grocery store I saw this merlot which is apparently a joint venture of Robert and Tim Mondavi and the Marchesi di Frescobaldi. It was usually priced at $9.99 but was on special for $7.99 so is probably not considered an aristocrat of wines. (I picked up a Georges duBoeuf Vouvray and a Georges duBoeuf Viognier--recommended by IK--I wanted to see which I prefer as a summer white along with riesling and unoaked chards.) - hotwine - 04-21-2002 Can vouch for deBoeuf's Viognier; it's excellent. But haven't tried the others. - Thomas - 04-22-2002 Personally, I shy away from those California-European joint wine ventures. They smack of gimmickry to off some surplus via name recognition. I still believe that Opus One is the biggest robbery since the one in Boston a few generations ago. Barnesy - wondersofwine - 04-29-2002 Thanks for the replies. - winoweenie - 04-29-2002 In accord with Foodie, I have never had a " Hokus, Pokus, Opus " in my cellar. WW |
