1997 Cantele, Salice Salentino, Riserva ($8.99). Terrific value. Picked it up at Micucci's in Portland on Saturday afternoon, along with some of their best salami, Provolone, oven fresh rolls, and some spicy mustard. Enjoyed the wine along with the resulting sandwiches while watching the lights dance around Casco Bay from our ocean front suite in The Inn By The Sea in Cape Elizabeth. We used a coupon in a guidebook the get two nights for one at the rate of $187. It was wonderful

The wine had a deep purply red color, with plums (hear that Foodie!) on the nose. More fruit, spice, acid, a little oak, and tannins as smooth as a baby's bum across the palate. All this followed by a finish going from the palate to the toes. Look for this one. It is a great, great value.

Why the sandwiches? Well, you see we dropped a c-note at Joe's Boathouse the night before. It was a great weekend though. Maine is a terrific place.
