Prosciutto in a glass (if you like that sort of thing). Deep, dark crimson. Nothing but meat on the nose. Full-bodied, big-shouldered wine. Wonderfully thick and rich mouthfeel, solid midpalate with lots of earth, tobacco, pepper, leather, a touch of raisin. The only thing missing is the fruit. Long, lingering, smoky finish. Still, nice in its own right. Paired well with macaroni al sugo (tomatoes, carrots, celery, meat) from my favorite Italian takeout joint. A 375ml bottle, for which I paid $25 here in NYC. 87/85. Would easily rate in the 90s if there were more fruit; everything else is wonderful. Alcohol 13%. WS gives it an 84.
