Dined at Veritas here in NYC last night and wanted to order a special bottle. WS had given it a 97, 1990 was a great Italian vintage, and I love cabernet--so I went out on a limb, and ordered this, the most expensive wine I've ever paid for in a restaurant.

It was decanted about 45 minutes to an hour before our main course arrived (by the way, the entire meal, from the amuse bouche to the desert, was absolutely sublime, but that's another topic). And still, the wine was closed, quite youthful, with firm, yet supple tannins, and a very deep purple color. This one still needs a few years, if you ask me, but as the night wore on, it got better and better, deeper, richer. Absolutely wonderful.

For those of you fortunate enough to have some, hold on!
