For a supposed 96 point blockbuster (WS) this was a total flop. Nothing to offer. Basic on both the palet and nose. I am quite happy it was a gift as spending $70 on this loser would have really made me blanch.

Geeeee.... Gone to sleep, maybe? Travel shock? Poor storage? Should have been a winner.

Sleep maybe, but should have been ready. Even after time nothing. I've had it at 55 since release and opened it at home so no issues there.

Methinks it were asleep. Should be ready by 2012.

Could be. Parker and WS both stated Early Maturity though. Their rating were much different though. WS loved it with a 96 and Parker was completly bored with it and gave it an 88 saying it was one dimensional. That's kind of what I got.

Robert Parker Online EWS Blind Tasting notes 11-07-2002

8) Poggio alle Mura (Banfi) - $75 - 45 points (eight 1st, six 2nd, nine 3rd) - 94 rating The deepest color so far. Open, complex nose is attractive showing spices and a touch of oak. Compelling on the palate with tremendous depth and richness. Fruit is sweet with plum notes. Harmonious in every way. Lovely combination of fruit and structure. Long finish. Will be better in five years or more.

I believe I have a bottle of either the Banfi 97 or 99. Will have to check.

I have the 99 regular bottling still waiting. I was hoping for a better showing from a single vineyard. Maybe the sleep theory has something to do with it, but I'm thinking there was not much there to begin with.

Guess mine is the regular Brunello but still haven't checked the vintage.
