Most, if not all, Italian wines have this I.G.T. or D.O.C. labels. What are they and how do they make a wine with either label more significant. What do they mean anyway?

IGT--Indicazione Geografica Tipica--means the wine is produced from grapes that normally are associated with a specific region or place but are gathered up from many places within the geographic area: i.e, Lecce (Puglia) IGT
DOC--Denomonazione Origini Controllata--means the wine was produced in an identified, region or place using only allowed grapes grown in that place and produced by specific methods for that place: i.e., Salice Salentino, Salento (Puglia) DOC.
