- VouvrayHead - 02-28-2007 $12, Rheingau Well, my first German Pinot. It's interesting exploring this grape outside of Oregon and Burgundy. (I've even heard that some people drink them from California, gasp!) It's nicely perfumy, a bit fruit and a bit woodsy. In the mouth it has some oddly sweet cherry and stewed plum type notes with an undertone of roasted meat. The sweetness is a bit bizarre and off-putting, but it does work with the other flavors. Medium body, good flavor intensity, a bit light on the end, but pretty good. Would be better with food. I've certainly had worse $12 pinot, but it's not something I'd search out again. We've only had a couple of Spatburgunders, however, and I only remember one, which was light and somewhat dilute in flavors. I always intend to do more exploring, then forget about the notion. Thanks for the notes. - Innkeeper - 02-28-2007 Thanks for the tip Dan. Pops was totting a Romanian Pinot for well less than $10 that I almost bit on. If I didn't already have a half case each of two from Australia already on order from Southern, could very well have. |
