I had a chance to try this interesting wine with grilled swordfish and wild rice. I got a full flavor of apple though my husband swears he tasted strawberry. The taste brought us both back to our visit to the winery 3 months ago. It's amazing how wine can taste like a memory.

Very perceptive VG. Wine does evoke memories and even the mention of a wine often has that effect. Someone mentions Piesporter Riesling and I recall that that is one of the first German wines I drank on a regular basis while working in Mannheim area. There was a restaurant within walking distance of Coleman Barracks that served a Piesporter Michelsberg by the glass and that got me started drinking Mosel wines.
If someone mentions Bonnes Mares I am reminded that I had a small taste of this red Burgundy at a Nantucket Wine Festival and that was probably my first taste of a Grand Cru Burgundy. And so it goes.

Thanks wondersofwine. I'm familiar with the Mannheim area. I have family living in BF Village. I got my start drinking wine about 8 years ago when I visited my brother in Bad Kreuznach on the Nahe River. The area is filled with small family run wineries that have some extraordinary Rieslings. I was stationed in Wurzburg for a while and got to sample their Rieslings as well, though Franconia isn't known for exporting many of their wines as they can't compete with the high quality wines produced in the Rhine and Mosel areas. However, I have seen a select few from this region in the states. The 03 Staatlicher Hofkeller Wurzburg from the Estate Staatlicher Hofkeller is a light and well balanced Riesling that we poured at our wedding. The Staatlicher Hofkeller Würzburg is one of the oldest wine estates in Europe, dating back to 1128. The winery is based in the former royal court cellars at the Residence of the Prince Bishops of Würzburg. This was also one of the historic sites we visited when we were dating which makes it extra special whenever we open a bottle. Again, another way in which wine can bring back a memory!

Looking in my cellar book I find I haven't received the 03s yet. Will open an 01 instead. WW

We just popped our second bottle. Absolutly fantastic. Great even before dinner with nothing else on the palet. Tough task for a PN. Will be pairing with chicken and broccoli alfredo. A brief trip of my wine vacation as we are stuck in with the noreaster. 10-15 inches expected. We may... need another bottle or something or other...

I would think maybe the "Other" has more interest! WW
