- toiletwine - 05-01-2002 i am looking for a good sweet red wine to serve beef. any ideas? must be in a medium price range, and classy enough to impress - mrdutton - 05-01-2002 I would never serve a sweet red with beef. The fat in the meat clashes with the sugar in the vino. That said, I'd suggest you might want to try a wine that has apparent sweetness because of the fruit forward taste of the wine. Try a wine from France known as Beaujolais. Or you may want to head toward a wine with a bit dryer and earthier taste, but still a lot of fruit. If so, try some of the wines from the Rhone region of France, a GSM (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre) from OZ (Australia) or a syrah from California. - hotwine - 05-01-2002 Welcome back, Mike! - Thomas - 05-01-2002 Yeah, sweet red wine with beef would certainly come close to your moniker--toiletwine... Perhaps you could seek a red with high alcohol (Zinfandel at 14 or 15%). High alcohol often makes a wine seem sweet. After all, alcohol is fermented sugar and if it weren't hot to the taste, it would be sweet. [This message has been edited by foodie (edited 05-01-2002).] |
