Well, due to schedules, my family is having their Easter dinner next week, and I am in charge of wine. So I was wondering what people found went well with their meals of ham on this holiday. Say with scalloped potatoes and plain veggies most likely.

Dozer, I matched an Italian "Ciro" made from the Gaglioppo grape with our "Easter" dinner on Saturday due to the only day the entire family could get together. This was recommended by a fine Italian deli in the area that I work. An unusual wine without food but with the ham was a match made in heaven. The bottle was discarded before I could write down the particulars, sorry, that's why I didn't post notes. The wine had smokey, clove like flavors that melded with the flavors of the ham.

What sort of wine was this? Red, white? I've looked to find out more about it, but can't seem to find any mention of it anywhere.

This is a red wine of the Gaglioppo grape made in the southern region of Italy in the toe of the boot. It's new to me also but matched well with the ham.

Dozer, we had a meal yesterday similar to the one you described: simple oven-baked ham with potato salad, cole slaw and brocolli. The wine was a German white, a 1996 Wehlener Klosterberg Riesling Kabinett-halbtrocken Mosel-Saar-Ruwer (MSR), AP Nr. 2 606 465 8 97, purchased in Apr '99 for $8.99. It was excellent with the ham, having just the faintest touch of sweetness to it, while the ham did not have a glaze, so had no sweetness at all. A clean, crisp, MSR Riesling. Just wish I had bought more. But a word of warning: if your ham is glazed, go with a Pinot Noir.
