The label of this bottle is wonderfully enticing. Great name (Jayer), great area (Echezeaux), Grand Cru and VV!! Wow. Who’s this Haegelen guy? Apparently, Alfred Haegelen married Madeleine, a niece of the great Henri Jayer. Wonderfully maturing wine with still a lot within it. Elegant and dense nose, slightly moving towards secondary and tertiary noses, tobacco, leafy earthy, and ripe dark fruits. Good length and nice persistence. Not a top level Echezeaux but this one has personality!

I've had a few Jayer-Gilles wines that I've liked but none of the wines made by Henri Jayer. I'm afraid those are mostly off the market by now and beyond my budget when they were available. Robert Jayer of the Domaine Gilles is some relation to Henri Jayer but I'm not sure just how they are related.
