This is my first bottle of Loring out of the case that I orderend upon recommendation by other members of this board (yes, you know who you are).

Dark color with a aromatic nose of black cherry. Concentrated dark and rich fruit with an earth and mineral character. Wonderfully structured with a lush finish that is just terrific. This is a delicious Pinot.

Outstanding bottle of wine. Took an hour to open up, but once it did, dynamite.

KC, I agree, but it was so good with our early Valentines dinner that I am relunctant to feel guilty about it. :-)

How long do you guys typically sit on these Cali Pinots (Sea Smoke, Loring, etc.) before you start sampling?

That depends. I like them after about 3 - 4 years, and we're into the 03's now. That said, I took Brian's advice a few years ago and splash decanted a bottle shortly after it came in and it made huge difference. We tasted it from the newly opened bottle then splashed it and tasted again. All that aeration really opened the wine up, and we do that every so often now.

Well, that first bottle was so good that I just ordered more off of their spring 05 mailer. The hard part is going to be keeping my hands off of them for the next couple years.
