Hi All:

I have a question about wine and hope I am posting in the right place!!!!

My DH was born in 1952 and it just so happens that we will be in Beaune this year on his birthday.

He loves Burgundy wine (reds) and I was wondering whether I could get a bottle of 1952 as a surprise birthday present.

Anyone know whether 1952 was a good year for Burgundy wine and/or any idea of what something like that would cost or where I might get that type of information?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Catcaper

Hi CC and welcome to the Wine Board. If you were going to be in this country, I would be very negative about you finding a '52 that was still alive. It is still doubtful, even in Beaune. The best hope would be to get cozy with a little old winemaker how might have some oldies in the celler. Ask around.

Hi Innkeeper:

Thanks for your response.

I contacted the hotel where we are going to be staying and today received a message that the manager found a bottle of Burgundy wine from 1952: “Clos Vougeot” from Maison Remoissenet at 1,090 €uros.

Sounds like a lot of Euros to me!!!!!

Think I might just settle for a great bottle of champagne!!!!!

But will keep looking.

Thanks again.

Hi CatC and welcome to the board. IMHO don't waste your hard-earned on ANY 52 burgandy as it was a mediocre vintage at best and most have long since died. Toast with a great bubbly instead. WW

Thanks Winoweene:

For your response. And thanks to all others.

So, giving up on the 1952, and moving to Champagne, I think I remember someone saying that 1985 Dom is the best???

May not be right.

So, if I can't get birth year, what would you suggest?

The 1985 Dom? Or do you have a better idea?

If you could only have one bottle, what would it be????????

Catcaper.

CC you didn't post where you're from. If your in So. Cal call our very own Roberto (on the board as Botofugo) at 1-800-Wine Expo as he jhas the largest selection of Bubblies I've encountered. Or if your in a rexciprical shipping state he can ship to you. WW
