Found this lil' darlin hiding in the cellar. Travis Fretter was one of the early 70s' maverick wine-makers who got grapes from all over Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino and crushed, stored, and bottled them in a warehouse in Berkely. He made some sensational juice and became a cult figure in the early 80s'. This Pinot from the Clow Ranch in Mendocino should have died, been buried, and gone to juice heaven long ago so we opened it without much hope. The nose was like an old tenny shoe, but Lo, and when the liquid hit the lips, it was a stunner.Hints of violets, beef tederloin, something reminiscent of fruit and a silky mouthfeel. A marvelous experience and all at the bar at my hangout agreed this was a great tasting wine. 22 years and counting. Whoo-da-thunk-it? Left half a bottle for the late comers. Doubt if it held up over an hour. WW
