Coralie, your Frenchness shows--wine is an everyday drink, why wouldn't it pair with pizza. The only reason that i can think of is that a snob would not think so.

Tell me that you are not a snob. How could you be? You would serve cola and tea at your wedding, which, to me, is a major sacrilege that doesn't compare with wine and pizza.

I used to eat lots of pizza when I was much younger. Now this thread is making me crave for some. I'm a classic kind of bloke. I used to have Merlot with my pizza all the time. Maybe I'll take a bite some time this week. I just hope my wife won't see me.

Just last night.... Our Spanish pizza. Sauce is based on marinara but fresh cilantro replaces oregano and red bell pepper is sauteed along with the onion and garlic. Sauce is cooked long enough to reduce the peppers to pulp.

I use instant dough normally as it rolls out thin and keeps its lightness after doing that.

Topping: smear with sauce, chorizo, artichoke hearts, Manzanilla Olives, roasted red pepper strips, and crumbled goat cheese. The goat cheese browns on the peaks and takes on a nutty flavor when this happens. Baked on a 3/4" pizza stone (pc of marble counter top) in a preheated 525° oven for 4 to 5 minutes. Oh yes...... and red sangria.

Had dinner a few nights ago at Toronto's Oliver and Bonacini. They make a pretty decent pie. ... damn getting hungry too...
