Had this with dinner last night in poor glassware which really seemed to detract from the nose. Classic burgundy flavors of cherry and mineral with good intensity and still a bit of zing. Tannins were mostly gone, leaving behing a nice smooth, cool texture. This was a very good wine but I have to give the edge to the '93 for its thick and velvety texture.

Just bought some '99 Ecard Savigny-les-Beaunes Serpentieres. Was wondering how long I will need to store it to let it mature. Would 2002 be too soon to open it?

Welcome to the board.

What critical reviews I've read talk about '99 as a forward vintage for red burgundy and that the wines should offer early appeal. Savigny is not noted for producing vins de garde and my experience with the '90 and '93 Ecards does not suggest anything to the contrary. So, I'd say 2002 should be just fine assuming you have decent storage conditions (no natural light and temperature between 45 and 65 F). I'll be curious to hear how it turns out. I've not bought any of the '99s, but the '93 Serpentieres is one of the best burgundies I've had.
