Even in an off vintage year, I think the guys at Cheval Blanc either have great terroir, wine maker or probably a bit of both. Looking forward to seeing if they can arrange a visit to the Chateau?

Tried the 1999 Cheval Blanc on Saturday. Its an incredible concentration and youthful wine. I certainly see the difference from previous vintages that have 20+ years, but this one has atypical raspberry, cedar, cassis, crushed cherry in a more mumbled mix almost un-ripe. But a certain tightness on the nose that leads me to believe there is something hiding. Tried to decant for half an hour and it didn't loosen up much. Needs 7-10 more years and I think it will be ready.

Gonna post some Malbec manana. Hope all are well this nasty dirty wet cold evening in A-town.
