We opened up a couple of bordeaux at the end of the night..... really.. Right bank verus left bank, 2000 versus 2005, recently in the limeline and popular versus relative unknown......verdict???

2005 Pontet Canet, Bordeaux,
This is a Bordeaux? This thing was a massive, ripe, almost black in color wine, hyper-sized, deep dense, tar, tannic, smooth, round, lush, wow…. Would’ve guessed California as pretty much everyone around the table. Great wine but Bordeaux? Two people preferred this wine out of four

2000 Grand Pontet, St. Emilion.
This thing was a tannic monster on release but it has evolved very nicely. Good solid nose with some development already, cedary, slightly musty, but coming together nicely. Solid wine with some ways to go but certainly approachable now. Two people preferred this one.

Tied match!!! it was a tough call. Both wines were really good.

Haven't had any of the 05s yet but agree on the 00 Grand Pontet. Definately in the outastanding catafgory and like many of the 00s with Meeny yars ahead. WW
