This Bordeaux blanc was damaged goods from the cellar's "pre-chilled" days, when temperatures and RH levels fluctuated wildly each year. Bought it in the mid-'90s for probably $8-$10 and chose to pair it night before last with baked chicken.

Cork showed heat damage. Although the bottle didn't appear to have leaked yet, the cork was wet and softening its full length. It still produced a soft "pop" when pulled, but the nose gave a hint that all was not right. Color still looked good, a pale straw, almost PG hue; but the first sip let me know I was 'way late with this one. Let it sit for a while and some of the funk blew off, enough that I could gut it out through dinner. D said she wouldn't even try, so I got her a Tommasi PG.... which she said worked well with the chicken and wild rice with 'shrooms.

Set the remaining half-bottle in the fridge without re-corking and tried last night as a sipper before supper. Showed a bit more improvement, but still funky. There's a glass left even now, but the drain monster will probably claim it by sundown.

Shucks. It would probably have still been a pretty nice wine with good storage.
