2002 Domaine Fichet, Chateau London, Macon Ige, Chardonnay ($12 Blue Hill Wine Shop). Alcohol 13%. Today was my true love’s birthday. This is the year we both turn 65 (moi six weeks later). We also had a gang on board. The daughter with hubby and three kids was here along with our one unmarried one. So, it was dinner for eight last night and today at midday as the gang of five had to leave early, at least three of them as two don’t start nursery school until next week, so we hung onto them. Therefore I ended up fixing breakfast and dinner at the same time. While fixing pancakes and bacon, I also got two four pound chickens into the smoker with peach chips. Dinner at 12:30 PM consisted of the chicken, garlic bread from a baguette we brought back from Grand Manan, and spinach. It was accompanied with the Macon Ige, and followed by what we call coffee cream cake for dessert. Incidentally son-in-law has the same birthday. He was 45 today.

These is a lovely wine and very nice value considering the exchange rate with Europe these days. A fresh as the proverbial daisy, it gives ripe apples and citrus on the nose and upfront. Pleasantly complex across the palate, it all ends with a satisfying finish. Matched extremely well with the smoked chicken.

Tonight the remaining five of us had leftovers for supper. Mother and I washed it down with the last ‘01 Coopers Creek Unoaked Chardonnay. Sigh! So, it turned out to be a two SW birthday.
