There is another Lugny besides "Les Charmes." 1998 Maison Louis Latour, Les Genievres, Macon-Lugny ($10). This completly unwooded chardonnay is another splendid offering. Pleasant citrus on the nose and lips, lightly varietal with lots of acid on the palate, and a lovely finish. A buck or two more than Les Charmes, the only advantage is the acidiy. If the accompanying meal is also acidic, or if it was the only one on the wine card besides a woodpile, would not hesitate to go for it.

We enjoyed it tonight, with broiled haddock and salad, and there was no fireworks of the mouth with the salad. It almost matched better than the fish.
