"Les Charmes"

I found it! I'll let you know when I have tasted, sometime this week.

- Innkeeper - 02-21-2006

Hope it's the '03. We picked up an '03 today for $9.99.

- robr - 02-21-2006

Yes, it is! I paid $13. It's sitting next to a bottle of 2004 Nieto from Mendoza, Argentina, also a chard. I'm very curious about both of these.

So many wines, so little time.

IK, I just opened it and, well, I have to say, this is the best unoaked chardonnay I have ever tasted. You were right. Folks, you gotta try this one.

Going back next week to get a couple more of these.

- Deputy - 02-25-2006

What's the full name? There are several wines with "Charmes" in the name available to me locally.

Thanks

- robr - 02-25-2006

2003 Cave de Lugny, Macon Lugny, Chardonnay, "Les Charmes"

IK says try to get the 2003. It's very good.

Hmm, not apparently available at the provincial stores...might have to try popping into a private shop.

Do you guys have any recommendations for something comparable? (www.bcliquorstores.com has a great search feature - tells you what's in stock at what stores even - I love it!)

- robr - 02-26-2006

Try this one. You should be able to find it:

2004 Frei Brothers Russian River Valley --

it's as good, and also tastes unoaked to me. If you can't find it there are many others that are good. Someone will no doubt post another one or two?

Deputy,

Private store?? in BC? Can you please explain....heading there from SF on Tuesday.

- Deputy - 02-26-2006

No Frei Brothers at the public stores - other RRV Chards though...

Eng, there are public and private stores. There have been some private wine stores for awhile now, but we also some private liquor stores as well - those got allowed a few years ago.

See the list of Private Wine Stores in this document:

If you'll be downtown, I know that Marquis is supposed to have a good rep - never been there myself, but have heard of it several times. It's all about where you are really, because they're pretty much all in Vancouver or close to.

- TheEngineer - 02-26-2006

You know, I've been to a few of these on Victoria Island and I thought that they looked a bit different. I always wondered but it never really registered.

thanks for the information and I will look out for it.

Kim Crawford makes a good unoaked chardonnay- right up there with their sauv blanc

Here's another: Woodbridge Special Reserve, from Lodi. Had this this weekend. Very good unoaked one. Much better than the average Woodbridge, which I would not recommend.

Special reserve, huh?

No dice on that either. Bummer.

I'm sure I'll find something, hah.
