Surprisingly drinkable for such a young wine. Had this with Kansas City strip steak at John Pisto's Whaling Station in Monterey, CA. Dark ruby--lighter at rim. Well balanced. Didn't find a particular fruit dominating the nose or flavors. If pressed, would say dark cherries more than currants or cassis.

Good description, Wow. Found it a rather unremarkable Cab, but available and (usually) reasonably priced.

Think we're gonna find a lot of unremarkable 2000 bottlings from Calif. I'm gonna spend my Pesos on the 99s which I've found to be remarkably like the 94s', A killer vintage. WW

I have single bottles of '99 Sterling Cabernet Sauvignon and '99 Sequoia Grove C.S. and '99 Merryvale. How long do you think they will need to age? I've tried the Merryvale twice in restaurants and found it too tannic.

WOW I think most of the 97s are very similar to the 94s'. If this is the case the group you mention will need another 5-6 to resolve the tannins. WW

Thanks, WW. Guess I'll have to exercise some patience. I'm already holding off on my Ridge Zinfandels to give them some maturity.
I was asking about the '99s, not the '97s. Same story?

A friend of mine gave my wife and I a bottle of Sterling 99 Cab last weekend. So if I read the correctly, this is drinking good for a young wine, but should hold for a few years?
