Picked up a bottle of this at costco tonight. Very floral when you open. roses seem to be the dominent nose on this wine. The coloration is beautiful, deep ruby red.First taste is blackberry, earthy and then the wine goes more to spice , with the finish spice and pepper. I was very impressed with the smoothness of this wine and the finish considering how young it is .This baby stays on the tongue for a very long time.I would say it is a great "drink now" but I think I will invest in 6 more to lay down for 5 years. This is a BIG RED!@23 a bottle at costco,14.2% alc. and 4.5 lapper finish. For the money I LIKE THIS WINE!

Just for the record John Bueuler is one terrific guy and their property High above Lake Hennessey off the Silverado trail is a very impressive piece of real estate. His very first wine, the 1978 Cabernet is on my list of 10 best Calif cabs ever! If my memory serves he made 48-49 cases. After buying a bottle in Santa Barbara, I called John and he gave me the names of every retailer he sold. Didn't keep track but guess I put 1000 extra miles driving picking up a bottle or three wherever they had it. Ended up with a paltry 2&3/4 cases. All at between
6.49 and 8.79 a bottle. The closest he's come to this killer bottling was his 1991 Reserve at 27.50 per. Drank the last bottle 3 years ago and was still classic. Will have to try the new release. WW

All this talk about baby this and lapper that or babies lappin' or whatever . . . I think all Phoenix tasting notes sound the same

That's because the Phoenix posters are either relatives (or in some cases acquaintances) of one another. Do you see any similarities in the postings of KC Whippet and Californiagirl?

Well Dan aren't we a little snippy today? I don't remember using Baby-This or Baby-Lapper that in my tasting notes. The lapper system I came with over 25 years ago to determine for myself how long the finish on a wine lasted was incorperated in my tasting notes long before the Wine Board was born and I personally think it gives the most honest appraisal of the wines finish. I like " sucker" hummer" and other sundry descriptive adjectives rather than the mundane to describe a bottle of wine. BRW is a friend of mine who has embraced the grape with enthusiasm and the requisite
inquisitiveness, along with dedication to tasting, that is a prerequisite to becoming a wine lover. He has gone from a 28 bottle storage unit to its' twin brother, then bought a 500 bottle unit that has now become too small. I personally think his tasting notes show a maturity far beyond his drinking experience. The "baby" he talked about is a Baby in terms of maturity. AND the baby just could have been the result of taking a swig and saying "That Baby Rocks! " WW

Of course I know that WW! I was not criticizing the notes or the terms -- just havin' a little fun and showin' that I read your notes -- and enjoy those notes!

And, yes, wonders -- I caught that other relationship, too!

Sorry Dan but I didn't interpet the humour intended, and gracious knows I love humour.
Hope the humidity in dear ole' Atlanta makes up as usual for the dry heat out here. WW

What's with the British spelling, WW?

- dananne - 08-05-2004

No worries, my friend. Humidity??? Ugh! Don't even get me started. Our humidity has been between 70% and 100% with temps in the low to mid 90s. Hope your dry heat is somehow balancing this out!!! Had a 90 minute full-field soccer game last night that felt like I was playing in a sauna. Lost 5 pounds of water weight, and went into the game only weighing 122

- winoweenie - 08-05-2004

We haven't hit our full stroke yet as our highest humidity has hovered around 15-17% which is quite comfy with the 104s' to 107s. Will sweat off another small roast in the coming weeks whenced we'uns see the 35-50% humidittity. British spelling? I'm always happy to spell it rite in any language.
