I loved this upon release and tried a bottle last night. It has lost nearly all the "Rutherford dust" edge it had and is now fairly light in flavor. I'm not sure if I have an off bottle or not, but I would have thought that this would have held onto its fruit a bit better than it showed last night.

If they're all like this, better pop 'em soon because they won't last too much longer.

When a young wine like this seems to have lost a lot of fruit, it often indicates that the wine is mildly corked, below most people's taste threshold. I'd try another bottle before writing it off, FWIW.

Hey Bucko, thanks for the tip. I have a few more bottles in the cellar, so I'll give it a go.

Mike -

My wife and I had one of these from a 375 mL on Saturday night (5/1/99). It was really nice and still had loads of character. In fact, we were shocked how big, juicy and sweet it still is.

I bought a case of 750s and a dozen 375s and this was the first I had out of that batch so I hope it's not drying up already and tend to believe it's probably not.

As Bucko suggests, give the wine another try.....
