A pretty good book came out last year. It is called The Wine Lover's Cookbook, by Sid Goldstein. Chronical Books, 1999, IBSN 0-8118-2071-8. Great photos by John Ash. He gives a great rundown on all the popular wines and what foods, spices, and condiments they go with. Also gives what he calls "bridge ingrediants" that tie certain foods and wines together. The recipes are very "Californian", which is a bit of a problem for moi, but it easy to get the gist of his matching points.

I use two books as references.

One is THE WINE AVENGER by Willie Gluckstern.
The book is published by Simon & Schuster, New York: www.SimonSays.com. You can also go to Willie's web site: www.wineavenger.com. He is very opinionated, expresses his points enthusiastically and tends to push riesling abit strongly. However, there is some very good wine/food matching advice in the book, some of it very traditional and time-honored.

Another is WINE WITH FOOD by Joanna Simon. This book is also published by Simon & Schuster, New York. More tradional than Gluckstern, this book gives a good run-down on the tradional matches along with the author's advice on "hard to match" foods. There is a good section on matching wines to various ethnic styles. In the back are two sections that come in handy: "Food to Wine" and "Wine to Food" sections have a number of good suggestions.

I also use the informed suggestions from the other members on this Wine Board and, of course, my own experience.
