hello again folks..i was wondering what does it mean when someone binge drinks.. is it really damaging to health?? does drinking a bottle and a half of wine in one sitting be considered as binge drinking??? thanks.....

Binge drinking used to be defined as the massive intake of alcoholic beverages over a short period of time in order to become intoxicated.

Binge drinking, unless you are used to doing it, can kill you. If you are used to doing it and you over do it, it can kill you anyway.

I forget the specific amount of alcohol in the blood that will result in a coma and death, but it is not a whole heck of a lot.

On the other hand...................

A bottle and then another half bottle of wine in one day is not a lot, in my humble opinion. In one evening, that amount might get you tipsy. (Of course that depends on your body weight and your state of mind. Both of which are factors to consider when drinking alcohol.)

I drink a bottle of wine a day, sometimes two bottles on a weekend day. But then sometimes I only drink a half-bottle a day.

I guess the non-scientific answer is that it all boils down to what your body can handle before it sends you a signal that you have had enough!

thank you for your speedy reply....

There have been several medical research articles on the subject. Up to 14 drinks per week is considered by most medical studies to be healthy for the heart and with negligible or no adverse effects to other organ systems. Studies have also shown that binge drinking (all 14 drinks in a weekend) is harmful to all body systems including the heart. FWIW.

Why would you want to binge drink? That's just silly, you know? But, you can't get tipsy off a thing like milk! lol Anyway, a glass a day is good for your heart, but like Mister Mrdutton says, too much can kill you... So in conclusion, it would be foolish to drink a bottle and a half. ((But what do I know?))

There's also some recent evidence showing that binging even as infrequently as once/month can, in effect, erase all the health benefits of moderate drinking.
