I would definitely recommend a visit to foodie at is-wine. Another good one would be Nancy's Wines for Food, on Columbus & 75th.

Yep, Nancy's is is-wine's alter-ego.
Shortwiner proves his passion for wine; he is among the few New Yorkers who would leave their neighborhood to find interesting wines. Upper West or East Siders never go downtown--it's at least three miles away; Lower East Siders have an aversion to the heights of Uptown. Shortwiner goes all the way into Manhattan, to is-wine and even farther, to Nancy's, from Brooklyn. Marvelous!

thanks for the north/south stuff... perhaps when this rebel moves up to where all the yankees are, i'll hang a big ass rebel flag and sell all american wines!!!
perhaps i shouldn't have asked for suggestion/comments about insight on purchasing a wine/liquor store, I should ask "should i even consider purchasing a store because i have an southern accent???

drinkwine, I wouldn't put too much weight toward the snob side of things in NY.
I was born in Brooklyn; over my life I've lived in Texas, Maryland, New Jersey, Tehran, and in the Finger Lakes of NY State, and I can honestly say that the most tolerant place of all the above is NY City. It is a true "melting pot." people of so many places plop here and we learn to live with one another quite well.
In NY City living together is just that. But success is fostered by who you know and measured by who knows you.

Ah, well, just for the record, I actually work on the upper west side, about 10 blocks from Nancy's, so that's not such a big deal. Thinkin' about looking for my next job in the east village, though [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img]
It is true that for me a good part of the thrill of wine is in the chase. Suspect that's true for many of us here.
