I was wondering if anyone knows a good site to check out the etymology of the different words used to describe the varying formsw of wine. ie. Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Sauvignon, madeira..etc. The dictionary doesn't provide an adequate explanation. Thanks.

The names you cite as examples are names of grapes and places. Unless a wine is given a proprietary name by its producer, it generally carries the name of its primary grape or its viticultural location. Not much left to it, unless you want etymology of the names of the places and the family trees of the grapes; that is a tall order.
