Hi. I am actually looking for some assistance in matching some food to a wine. I was recently given a 1989 Mouton and a 1989 Lafite Bordeaux. I've always been happy drinking reds with fish and pasta (I don't eat meat), but thought I might try to match some cheeses to better appreciate these wines. Any ideas? Or any other food suggestions? I have a very limited knowledge of bordeaux, but love a full red, and am looking forward to trying these. Thanks in advance for any response!

Kat, with a heavier red like you have, try some stronger flavored cheeses so they are not overpowered by the wine. I prefer the soft ripe cheeses myself, like a good brie or camembert, also some of the smoked cheeses are great with red wines, a good smoked Gouda or Edam perhaps. Enjoy.

That good Bordeaux wine will also go nicely with a simple piece of grilled or broiled salmon...ahi tuna, also, and even a swordfish steak.

Grilled portabello mushrooms even work well.

Grill those portabello mushrooms in garlic butter and then let them share the plate with strips of roasted red pepper (to roast, split a pepper in half, clean it out and then put it skin side-up in electric broiler at 350 for half an hour, or until skin blisters for easy peeling).

Sprinkle the lot with ground black pepper to taste. You do not ever need meat again for that red wine.
