2006 Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico - TheEngineer - 05-15-2013

Still somewhat of a beast of a wine. Decanted and needed it.

Nicely evolving, nose of dried fruits, ripe dense, prunes, some spices, rather nice actually given its slightly rustic hsitory. Long and smooth, damn easy to drink right now. A bit prickly at the end but nothing to shy away from.

If you have a few, then I'd advise decant and trying one soon. No rush but it is in a nice place right now.

2006 was a great year but I stopped buying some time ago as the Zenato Valpolicella became too modern, imho.

Drew,

If they moved towards modern, then I can see some vestiges of that in the wine. It is rather clean for a Amarone, lacking some of that thyme and a slight line of bitterness that I rather like. This one was much more straight forward.
