1995 Chateau Mouton Rothschild - TheEngineer - 12-05-2012

Not often I get a chance to open a big dog.

Near the end of the night of long tasting and yet this thing was eminently interesting. Tasted double blind....my guess was the 1995 Opus one........

Very deep in colour, opaque, reddish purple color. Decanted for about 3 hours. Nose was a bit more reserved looking back than I thought it would be but nice. Cedar, berries, blueberries, cassis, graphite, and a few types of slate and earth. On the palate, the wine is a lot more dense, lots going on , nicely concentrated, more black fruits, berries, cassis and blueberry, pencil lead, licorice, structure is still there but soften, lots of time left for this puppy but it is happy where it is today. Lovely wine and wine of the night.

Amazingly the Frenchies got it rite back in 1855. This was their only mistake and the Rothie bubba finally showed them the error of their ways. WW

The delta between this one and the Calon Segur and the Leoville Barton was significant. It was super model versus very attractive looking people.
