Champagne/Sparkling wine tasting. - TheEngineer - 11-20-2012

Flight One:

N.V. Roederer Estate Brut (Anderson Valley California : clean, yeasty, good structured, tart, vibrant, a bit gree but solid. This is an easy drinking and will please many

2007 Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc Bruts: easy to id the only Blc d Blc, yeasty, bready, clean, nutty, short but decent.

2007 Truro Brut Sparkling wine (SouthEast New England): my fav wine of the 4 wine flight. This is another wine from the producers of Westpoint ?? Sparkling wine. This is good stuff. Lots of stuffing and punches above its weight.

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva Heredad Cava: a bit mismatched here even in the low end flight but some strong players. More fruit but less complex, a bit flat, lacking the vibrancy of the others.

Flight Two

Henriot Souverain Bru: nice combo of Chardonnay and Pinot, bready, high density of flavors, pear, good vibrancy, fresh
Charles de Cazanove Brut: bready toasty, mostly chardonnay it appears, good length, ver y fresh, hint tart but nicely done. My wine of the flight
Pol Rodger Reserve Brut, a touch off dry, slightly sweet, a bit short. Vibrant and fresh but short.
Laurent Perrier Brut: mildly proportioned but lovely structure. A hint of bitterness and austere mid palate. Interesting.

Flight Three

2002 Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin Brut: fruity, citrusy, bready, toasty, good density of flavors, tight still, good minerality and structure.

2004 Drapper Grand Sendree Brut: bready, a bit flabby, less vibrant,

2008 La Closerie Jerome Prevost les Beguines Extra Brut: toasted, very tight, rather acidic good length, a bit discombobulated at this point.
2004 Taittinger Brut: good fruit, lovely, toasty, a bit simple but minerally there and a good structure. Close for me for wine of flight

Flight Four
1999 Pol Rogers: at this prince….a bit of a letdown. Perhaps midpack at best amongst this bunch. Lacking freshiness and complexity

1998 Charles de Cazanove Stradiviusl: wow, the surprise of the flight, puching well over (in the case of the Pol Rodgers, 4 times cheaper than the highestf this group.

1998 Veuve Cliquot: Wow, like may VC LGD’s that I’ve known in the past. Mushroomy, like always, a great bottle.

1999 Perrier-Joust Fleur de Champagne Great flight, not a bad wine in a bunch.
